A new book by Answers in Genesis examines the exodus of people from the church. Ken Ham blames this exodus on compromising Christians who believe in an old earth. He fails to realize that young earth creationism is the reason for the exodus. Click here to read more.

Today’s Answers in Genesis daily article by Gary Vaterlaus is about the apparent contradiction in the BIble concerning snakes eating dust. While I agree with AiG’s answer to this issue, there are other points made in the article which are questionable. To read the Answers In Creation rebuttal to this article, click here.

In a daily article from Answers in Genesis, Bodie Hodge asks the question of the age of the earth. This article attempts to present evidence from the genealogies in the the Bible, and then it attempts to tear down old earth dating methods. It is not effective in either. What is beneath the cross? Andrew Snelling of Answers in Genesis answers this correctly, in that there are layers of sedimentary rock containing many fossils. Whereas he sees this as proof of a global flood, the scientific evidence says otherwise. Click here to read this article.

As many of you know, Answers in Genesis split two years ago, with the US ministry under Ken Ham essentially casting off the parts of the ministry that stood in his way (he did not want oversight from anyone). CMI recently posted an article about their new operating practices which is a clear attempt at preventing any such split in the future. I’ve posted a commentary on this split here.

A recent article by Answers in Genesis shows that they still are pitching the idea that evolution makes people violent. In their News to Note for 27 Sep 08, they mention a Finnish college man who killed 10 people in a shooting. The article ends with this paragraph…
“But when the tale of cosmic history students are taught includes eons of amoral death and violence, with the animals of humanity merely the accidental result of billions of years of chance, and morals simply a social construct to make us feel better, why should anyone be surprised when—quoting Darwinian “scripture”—self-proclaimed “natural selectors” pick up guns and start shooting?”
I’m fairly certain that the shooter was an evolutionist. However, this does not make evolutionists evil. On the contrary, there are millions of Christians who are also evolutionists…are they evil too? In their crusade against evolution, Answers in Genesis could care less who gets in their way…whether they be Christians or non-Christians.
I agree with one of the implied arguments of the article. Christians do have a moral guideline to follow, which makes us less likely to commit sins. However, the article ignores one other little fact. Vile crimes have been committed by many a Christian as well (click here). The truth is we are all sinners, and in a bad moment we too can lapse into sin. Evolutionists do not have a corner on the market on sinful deeds.
The article will have the desired effect…make young earth believers distrust evolution even more. But it will also have another effect. It will alienate those Christian brothers and sisters who believe in evolution. With rhetoric like this, its no wonder that young earth creationism is shrinking into a corner all by itself, as more and more people abandon it in favor of true science.
